Questions to Ask Before Rebuilding Your Website

If you already have a website but it’s starting to feel outdated, slow, or off-brand, a rebuild can completely transform your online presence.
Before we start the process, there are a few key questions that help us plan the transition smoothly and avoid losing any important data or access.

At Pacific Marketing Agency, we like to begin every website rebuild with a short questionnaire that ensures we understand your current setup, hosting environment, and goals for the new site. Below are the questions we ask — and why they’re so important.

Where is your current website built?

(What platform or CMS do you use?)

This tells us what technology we’re working with — whether it’s WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, or another platform. Knowing the CMS helps us determine what content can be migrated, how complex the transfer will be, and what performance or design limitations exist.

Where is your domain hosted?

(Who is your domain registrar?)

Your domain name (the “.com” part of your website) is usually managed separately from the hosting platform. We’ll need to know your registrar — such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, or another provider — to plan DNS changes and ensure a smooth transition once the new site goes live.

Do you currently have a business email attached to this domain?

(If so, who is your email provider — Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc.)

Your email setup can be tied to your domain’s DNS records. Suppose you already use a business email like info@yourcompany.com. In that case, we’ll make sure that your email service remains active and uninterrupted during the rebuild (some migration processes might cause minimal downtime, but we will try to do our best to reduce this).

If it applies, how long before your current plan expires?

If your hosting or domain subscription is expiring soon, we’ll need to plan the migration timeline accordingly. This prevents your current site or domain from going offline before everything has been successfully transferred.

What information would you like to keep, remove, or add to the current website?

Your existing website likely has valuable content that still represents your business well — and some that no longer fits your goals. Let us know what pages, sections, or features you want to keep, what can go, and what new ideas you’d like to see implemented.

Can you provide a few examples of websites you like?

(Unless you want to leave it up to us!)

Seeing examples of websites you admire gives us a clear idea of your design style and functional preferences. Whether it’s a clean minimalist layout, bold visuals, or luxury aesthetics, these examples guide our creative direction while ensuring your new website aligns perfectly with your brand.
